Defendant Pleads Guilty to Rape and Assault Charges

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 56-year-old Muhummad Alazim of Buffalo pleaded guilty before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to one count of Rape in the First Degree and to one count of Assault in the First Degree, both Class “B” violent felonies. The defendant pleaded guilty on Thursday, July 11, 2019.

The defendant admitted that on November 17, 2018, he engaged in sexual intercourse with a female victim by forcible compulsion at a location in the City of Buffalo. During the rape, he caused serious physical injury to the victim by beating her. 

Alazim faces 25 years in prison when he is sentenced on Monday, September 23, 2019 at 2 p.m. He remains held without bail.

DA Flynn commends Ret. Det. Joseph Ahmed, Detectives Julie Ledwin and Molly Sanford of the Buffalo Police Department, and initial first responders from B District for their work in the investigation. DA Flynn also commends the medical staff at ECMC, specifically Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Mary Burt.   

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bethany A. Solek of the DA’s Special Victims Bureau.
