First Conviction After Trial in Case Investigated by Buffalo Police Neighborhood Engagement Team

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that Buffalo City Court Judge Kevin J. Keane has found 22-year-old Caleb Love of Cheektowaga guilty of one count of Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the Fifth Degree, a Class “B” misdemeanor. The defendant was found guilty on Friday, May 3, 2019 following a bench trial.

On January 4, 2019, at approximately 8 p.m., officers from the Buffalo Police Department Neighborhood Engagement Team (NET) observed the defendant engage in a hand-to-hand transaction outside of a home on Sweeney Street. The officers witnessed the defendant retrieve what appeared to be marijuana from the side of the house, which he then exchanged for cash from another individual. Upon further investigation, the defendant was found in possession of 57 grams of marijuana.

Love faces a maximum of 90 days in jail when he is sentenced on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 9:30 a.m.

DA Flynn commends Officers Lamont Rutherford and Robert Salamone of the Buffalo Police Department Neighborhood Engagement Team (NET) for their work in the investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Aaron C. Gorski of the DA’s City Court Bureau.
