Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 53-year-old Matthew Schunk of the Town of Tonawanda has been arraigned by Erie County Court Judge Kenneth F. Case on an indictment charging him with Murder in the Second Degree.

It is alleged that Schunk was involved in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Jonathan Grumble of Buffalo whose body was found on May 20, 2017 in a vacant lot at Quincy and Ashley in Buffalo.

Schunk pleaded not guilty and was remanded to jail without bail.

If convicted of the charge, Schunk faces a maximum of 25 years to life in prison.

DA Flynn commends the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad, including Detectives Dan Redmond, John Garcia, Reginald Minor, Antonio Borrelli and Detective Sgt. William Cooley.

Assistant District Attorneys John Patrick Feroleto and Lauren Nash are prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
