Woman Pleads Guilty to Illegally Collecting Disability Benefits

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr., announced today, that 53 year-old Parette Walker, pleaded guilty, as charged, to Insurance Fraud in the Fifth Degree before Buffalo City Court Judge Kevin Keane. 

The case was brought to light by Investigator James A. Murphy, III, of the New York State Department of Financial Services Criminal Investigations Unit. Murphy’s investigation uncovered that Walker committed insurance fraud by collecting disability benefits that she was not entitled to under the terms of her private disability policy.  The funds collected from First Unum Life Insurance Company have been repaid by Ms. Walker.

Walker faces a maximum prison term of one year when sentenced by the Hon. Kevin Keane.  Walker returns to court on February 10, 2016, at 9:30 am.  Assistant District Attorney Christopher P. Jurusik prosecuted the case.
