In partnership with town and local leaders, an event is being held to support Hamburg families in need

Hamburg, NY – Erie County Legislator John Gilmour, in partnership with Assemblyman Sean Ryan and Hamburg Town Councilmember Karen Hoak, is announcing a food and essential item drive for this Saturday, May 2nd to support the local #feedHamburg initiative that has been working diligently to support the Hamburg community since the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The need in our neighborhood has been overwhelming this past month,” stated Legislator Gilmour.  “The longer the public health crisis continues, the more depleted our local support system becomes. As we know, the need for food and other items increases as people go longer and longer without their regular paychecks. This drive will be a way for the Hamburg community to show their support for their neighbors safely in a time when it is really needed.”

“This pandemic has increased the need for food support across the country and throughout our local communities. As our local organizations work hard to get food and supplies to families in need, we must continue to show our support and do what we can. While social distancing measures remain in place, a "drive up" food drop off is a safe way to collect donations while respecting these important rules. Now, more than ever, we must ensure local organizations like Feed Hamburg have what they need to serve our neighbors and local families,” added Assemblyman Ryan.

Village of Hamburg Recreation Supervisor Josh Haeick stated, “ Combating hunger and assisting residents in need is nothing new to our team in the Village of Hamburg. My co-workers and I are really motivated to do our part on May 2nd, and we can’t wait to see everyone chipping in!”

The mobile drive will take place from 8 am to 2 pm, and will be staffed by volunteers from the Hamburg Parks and Recreation department, headed by Josh Haeick. The location is the Old Time Baptist Church located at 5599 Camp Road in Hamburg, NY. Donations of: nonperishable food items, cleaning supplies, paper products, toiletries, personal hygiene and disposable baby items are desperately needed. #feedHamburg is also accepting cash donations via Venmo (@feedHamburg) if you are unable to donate in person.

#feedHamburg is a non-profit community organization founded by Nicole Dayka in collaboration with the Town of Hamburg and Legislator John Gilmour’s office in the onset of the local Coronavirus pandemic to provide essential items to Hamburg families in need.
