Erie County Legislator Chris Greene recently declared May 22, 2021 as Old Scotland Road Distillery Day in Erie County as part of National Craft Distillery Day. To mark the occasion, Legislator Greene presented the owner of the Akron Distillery, Dead Hyder, with a proclamation.

Owner Dean Hyder is an Akron born and raised master distiller. Hyder comes from a long line of hardworking entrepreneurs and built the first legal distillery in the Town of Newstead in 2019.

Legislator Greene said, “Running a successful distillery takes hard work, invention and determination. It was an honor to be able to recognize Dean for his perseverance in fulfilling his distillery dream during the COVID-19 pandemic. And keep an eye out—his next bourbon batch is scheduled to be released at noon on July 2nd!”
