Erie County Legislator Chris Greene is encouraging individuals to take part in RecruitNY on April 24-25. RecruitNY was established in 2011 to showcase the opportunities and rewards that come with being a volunteer firefighter and to raise awareness about the need to recruit more volunteers. More than 20,000 new volunteer firefighters have answered the call through initiatives such as RecruitNY. To mark the importance of the event, Legislator Greene has introduced a resolution to the Erie County Legislature.
This year, many firehouses across New York State are organizing a virtual open house and other digital outreaches in an effort to attract new volunteers in a safe way during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Legislator Greene said, “Raising awareness of the importance of volunteer fire service and the impacts they have on the community is the first step in recruiting individuals to volunteer. I highly urge residents in my district, and all around New York State, to take the time and participate in RecruitNY this year.”
