Legislator Lorigo secures Summer Primetime funding for local youth programs

During last Thursday’s session, the Erie County Legislature unanimously approved funding that will benefit summer youth and recreation programs throughout the county, including a number of Boys and Girls Clubs in Legislator Lorigo’s district.

Funding was secured for the following organizations:

  • Boys and Girls Club of East Aurora - $10,000
  • Boys and Girls Club of Holland - $7,500
  • Boys and Girls Club of Elma, Marilla and Wales - $5,000
  • Cornell Cooperative Extension - $10,000

“I am always proud to support additional funding to these organizations that offer a variety of summer programs for kids and their families,” said Legislator Lorigo.  “During my recent visit to the Boys and Girls Clubs, it was great to see the many ways these funds are put to use. Year after year, this money is critical to ensuring children have access to educational and recreational resources during the summer months while parents are at work.”

The Boys & Girls Club of Elma, Marilla and Wales is grateful for Legislator Lorigo,” said Executive Director Tracey Karp-Theal.  “Legislator Lorigo's commitment to be a voice for youth is unwavering.  He continues to be a champion for creating opportunities for youth in our community.  He is an advocate for the issues impacting our club members and elevating his voice to enable more opportunities for youth.”

This is wonderful news for the Boys and Girls Club of EA,” said Executive Director Gary Schutrum. “This funding enables our staff to go the extra mile for our kids and affords many of them with opportunities that they would never have to attend camp, learn job ready skills, participate in an extended camp day, improve their reading levels through a summer reading program, obtain their first job as a camp counselor, stay engaged as a high school teen in a summer basketball league and much more.   We could never impact the number of youth in such a positive and meaningful manner without Legislator Lorigo's passion and support for what we do for all of our youth.”

Determination of Summer Primetime funding is coordinated through the Department of Social Services and the final proposal is requested by the County Executive’s office.  For a list of all organizations receiving funding in 2018, click here.
