Legislature unanimously approves agreement to increase pay for CPS workers

During Thursday’s session, the Erie County Legislature unanimously approved a resolution to increase pay for Child Protective Services employees.

Since August 2017 CPS workers have appeared at the Legislature to voice concerns surrounding high turnover, heavy caseloads and low pay. Recently, union representatives and the county administration finally reached an agreement to adjust salaries and merge titles for CPS employees and others within the Department of Social Services based off conversations had with the County Legislature.

Over the past several months, Minority Leader Joe Lorigo has met with CPS workers privately to hear their concerns and urge the administration to find a solution. Previously, the county executive had pushed a proposal that drew criticism from CPS employees and failed to address their needs.

“I am pleased that the county executive was finally able to reach an agreement with these employees,” said Minority Leader Lorigo. “After nine months of advocacy, these hard-working men and women have finally been recognized by the administration. Their dedication, service and tirelessness should be commended. I’m happy to have played a small part in helping them achieve their goal.”
