Erie County Legislature Passes Resolution Supporting Ingersoll Rand Employees

Legislator Tim Meyers and other members of the legislature voice opposition to layoffs at the Cheektowaga plant

Cheektowaga, NY – In regular session today, members of the Erie County Legislature supported a resolution calling on the Ingersoll Rand Company to enter into discussions with the Erie County Industrial Development Agency (ECIDA) and New York State’s Empire State Development Corporation about ways to keep their Cheektowaga plant operational and functional.

Ingersoll Rand announced in January that there are plans to move the Cheektowaga-based operations to a facility in North Carolina by the summer of 2019. This came as a surprise to many elected officials and would result in the loss of nearly 300 local jobs.

After issuing a joint statement with the County Executive and Cheektowaga Town Supervisor, Legislator Timothy Meyers (D-Cheektowaga) sponsored a resolution to put additional pressure on the company to preserve jobs in whatever capacity possible.

“We stand with the hard-working men and women who are impacted by this decision. They are members of this community, and they deserve to have their voices heard. Elected officials at every level of government are united in opposition to the closure of this major employer and are willing to work with company management,” said Legislator Meyers.

The resolution passed today unanimously.
