Erie County, NY – At the June 20, 2019 legislative session of the Erie County Legislature, Erie County Legislator Timothy Meyers supported a resolution opposing New York State’s newly enacted “Green Light” legislation which provides driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants. The state legislation was recently passed by the New York State Assembly and Senate.

“New York State or local governments do not have the authority or resources to remedy a national issue such as immigration.  County governments should not be forced to act on measures that are outside our scope and purview,” said Legislator Meyers.

The resolution opposes the New York State law that will allow for driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants, corrects factually-inaccurate provisions in the original version and calls on the federal government to fix our nation’s immigration system which is at the heart of this matter.

The resolution passed with an 8-2 vote.  Certified copies of the resolution which was approved today will be sent to Governor Cuomo and the entire WNY delegation to the New State Senate and Assembly.
