Legislator Meyers Secures Funding in 2020 Erie County Budget

Youth and senior organizations to receive additional funding for this coming year

 

Erie County, NY - Erie County Legislator Timothy Meyers, D- Cheektowaga, is pleased to announce additional funding for Cheektowaga in the 2020 Erie County Budget which was approved by the Legislature on December 5th in a 10-1 vote.

 

The 2020 Erie County budget contains another decrease in the county’s overall tax rate while increasing money for roads and infrastructure improvements. It also includes vital funding for various Cheektowaga based community and cultural organizations.

 

“The Democratic Majority was able to devote more money to roads, fund several joint initiatives like the lead poisoning pilot program, and help other organizations that do great work with our kids and the elderly. I am pleased with the County Executive’s commitment to prioritizing necessary improvements to infrastructure and county-wide projects like ErieNet that will have a positive impact on my district as well,” said Legislator Meyers.

 

Highlights include:

 

  • $600,000 in additional funding for maintenance of highways and supplies
  • $450,000 for ErieNet, Erie County’s proposed broadband system
  • $20,000 for Cheektowaga Youth & Recreation programming
  • $15,000 for Village of Sloan’s Piekarski Community Center upgrades
  • $5,000 for Cheektowaga Community Symphony
  • $5,000 for Friends of Reinstein Woods
  • $3,250 for Cheektowaga Historical Association

 

 

Also receiving funding in the 2020 Erie County Budget were the Dog Ears Bookstore Literacy Program, Tosh Collins Senior Center, South Buffalo Irish Feis/Can You Dig It, Kaisertown Friends Association, and Friends of Cazenovia Library. Legislator Meyers added, “I’m proud to be able to deliver for the Cheektowaga community in many diverse ways, and I think this year’s budget emphasizes how much we as Legislators value all of our constituents.”
