This morning, County Executive Mark Poloncarz transmitted his proposed 2020 Budget deficit reduction plan to the Legislature for our consideration.  He was required to submit such a plan due to the budget deficit in Erie County created by the revenue losses from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under Section 2511 of the Erie County Charter, once the Legislature receives the County Executive’s proposed deficit plan, the Legislature has 21 days to act on the proposed plan and we will do so.  Under the Charter, the County Comptroller is now required to submit a report to the Legislature within 7 days opining on the County Executive’s proposal.

The Legislature’s Finance and Management Committee will meet on Thursday, June 11th to review the deficit reduction plan, receive the Comptroller’s comments therein, and to pose questions to the Division of Budget and Management regarding the plan.  I expect this to be a very informative and productive meeting as we consider the County Executive’s proposal on addressing the budget gap.
