Erie County Legislature Chairman John J. Mills announces that the Erie County Legislature approved the memorandum authorizing the county to enter into a maintenance agreement with the New York State Department of Transportation for the former US Route 219 bridge that connects Erie and Cattaraugus counties. The approval came one day after the Cattaraugus County Legislature approved the contract. As a result, the counties will take over ownership of the bridge for the next 75 years with continued financial support from NYS.
“I am pleased that the state and counties were able to come to an agreement to ensure the bridge will be rebuilt and maintained, allowing safe travel for all who cross it. It was imperative that this bridge remain open to support communities and businesses,” said Legislator Mills. “This wasn’t an easy process and I want to thank everyone who played a role in accomplishing this agreement in the best interests of residents and businesses.”
