Legislator Mills announces Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day

Erie County Legislator John J. Mills, R-Orchard Park, reminds residents that an Erie County sponsored Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 18 at Erie Community College’s South Campus. Attendees are asked to enter from Big Tree Road – Route 20A via Abbott Road.

 

“Accepted items can be dropped off for free and will be properly disposed of. This is a great opportunity to remove hazardous items from your house and garage, and protect you and your family,” Legislator Mills said.

 

Items which can be brought to the site include:

  • Pesticides, fertilizers, and pool and household chemicals/cleaners (2 gallon limit or 20#)
  • Oil-based paints and spray cans (limit 10 gallons)
  • Oil, gasoline, kerosene and antifreeze (limit 10 gallons)
  • Paint thinner, stripper and solvents (limit 2 gallons)
  • Batteries – lead acid and rechargeable
  • Mercury – thermometers, thermostats and metal
  • Propane tanks and cylinders – full or empty

 

The following items will not be accepted: tires, latex paint, computers, appliances and commercial/industrial waste. Participants may need to verify that wastes are generated by households.
