Erie County Legislator John J. Mills is proud to name retiring Concord Supervisor Gary Eppolito as the Erie County Legislature’s Citizen of the Month for 2017 in recognition of his many contributions to the greater Concord community.

“Gary and I have worked very well together for many years and it is an honor to recognize him for his numerous contributions. While he will certainly be missed around Concord Town Hall, I trust he will continue to be heavily involved in improving the community,” said Legislator Mills. “Best wishes to Gary in the next chapters of his life and many thanks to him for his many years of service. Congratulations to Gary on this much-deserved recognition.”

Supervisor Eppolito was honored at the Dec. 7, 2017 Legislative session where he was presented with a proclamation recognizing him as the Citizen of the Month. He was joined by his wife, Carol.

He served in public office for nearly 24 years, beginning his public service career in 1979 as a member of the Village of Springville Zoning Board of Appeals. In 1994, he took office as a Village of Springville Trustee and was elected Springville Mayor in 1997, where he served until being elected Town of Concord Supervisor in 2005. After three terms as Concord Supervisor, he will retire at the end of this month.

In addition, Supervisor Eppolito taught in the West Valley School District for 33 years and was involved with Springville Youth Inc. and the Boy Scouts. He was instrumental in restarting the Erie County Water Quality Committee with the towns of Brant and Evans, and building the Lake Erie Water Quality Committee with Erie, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties.

He also responded to the needs of seniors in the Town of Concord by initiating the senior transportation service and seeing to completion of, the Town of Concord Senior Center. Today, Supervisor Eppolito continues to serve the community through his leadership within the Erie County Association of Governments, the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Board of Directors, the Concord Industrial Development Agency, the Environmental Council, and the Northeast Southtowns Solid Waste Management (NEST).
