Legislator Mills presents donation to Boston Library Director, Board Members

Erie County Legislator John J. Mills recently met with Boston Free Library Director Laura McLeod, Library Board President Suzanne Borowicz and Library Board Member Gary Vara to present a $760 donation to support improvements at the library. The funds were raised on Aug. 16, 2012 during Legislator Mills’ first annual Hot Dog Roast Fundraiser.

“I am pleased to present this $760 donation to the library following a very successful fundraiser,” said Legislator Mills. “I extended a challenge to the library to exceed this year’s total at next year’s hot dog roast, and with a great director, board, volunteers and supporters, I know this event will grow tremendously. This was an exciting and fun first hot dog roast and I want to thank the community for attending and showing their support.”

“The Boston Free Library would like to thank Legislator Mills for his support of the library.  The money raised at this event will help with the purchase of a new front door for the library, providing increased energy efficiency and security. We look forward with great anticipation to many more hot dog roasts in the years to come,” said Library Director McLeod.

Following the 2012 redistricting process, Legislator Mills’ district was expanded to include the Town of Boston, making this the first year he hosted a hot dog roast at the library. Six years ago he started the fundraising effort and uses a portion of his salary to host the fundraisers. He donates 100 percent of the proceeds to the host library and has raised approximately $30,000 in six years to support the branches in his district.
