Erie County Legislator John J. Mills’ first hot dog roast fundraiser for the Eden Library raised more than $800 to support the purchase of new audio-video equipment and items for the children’s area. Legislator Mills presented the donation to Eden Library Director Joyce Maguda and members of the Library Board of Trustees during a presentation held Aug. 15 at the library.
“For its first hot dog roast fundraiser, the Eden Library did exceptionally well. The turnout is a testament to the supporters, and the director and library board members who did a great job helping to organize this first annual event. I am pleased to present this donation to support quality programming and materials at the library,” said Legislator Mills.
Each year Legislator Mills holds fundraisers at each of the libraries in his district. With the new districts taking effect on Jan. 1, 2012, this is the first year that Legislator Mills is representing Eden. He uses a portion of his salary to purchase the materials for the hot dog roasts and donates 100 percent of the proceeds. The Eden Library hot dog roast fundraiser was held July 18.
“Thanks to the generosity of Erie County Legislator John Mills, the Eden Library annual family picnic resulted in $806 for the library! Over 120 people enjoyed the hot dogs, Italian sausage, water and condiments he donated. Library Board members also provided homemade cookies and lemonade. The Eden community continues its tradition of being strong library supporters,” said Library Director Maguda.
Discussions for next year’s fundraiser are already taking place and Legislator Mills looks forward to bringing the Sahlen’s Grill back to the Eden Library next summer. To date, he has raised more than $25,000 for the libraries in his district.
