Last week, the Erie County Legislature approved a measure to complete design work for the stabilization and reconstruction work on Ketchum Road in the Town of Collins. This additional funding will allow the county to complete design of the work and acquire the right-of-way needed to move onto remediation of the road failure.
Ketchum Road has been closed since 2011 due to failure of the roadway and supporting embankment. Work was started, however, it was put on hold due to lack of funding. The Legislature approved a contract amendment to appropriate funds and push the project forward.
“The fact that Ketchum Road has been closed for 6 years is unacceptable and is a public safety issue affecting response times for emergency vehicles,” said Legislator John Mills. “I am hopeful that with this approval to move forward with repairs, the county administration will complete the project within the coming year.”
