Erie County Legislator John Mills is encouraging individuals to take part in RecruitNY on April 24-25. RecruitNY was established in 2011 to showcase the opportunities and rewards that come with being a volunteer firefighter and to raise awareness about the need to recruit more volunteers. More than 20,000 new volunteer firefighters have answered the call through initiatives such as RecruitNY. To mark the importance of the event, Legislator Mills has introduced a resolution to the Erie County Legislature.

This year, many firehouses across New York State are organizing a virtual open house and other digital outreaches in an effort to attract new volunteers in a safe way during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Legislator Mills said, “Firefighters help to maintain order in times of panic and crisis. Volunteers are always needed to help firehouses run smoothly and to keep the community safe. I encourage everyone who is considering answering the call and everyone who is interested in learning more about it to attend RecruitNY to get your questions answered.”
