Erie County Legislator John Mills recently presented a proclamation to members of the Chestnut Ridge Conservancy, naming them Citizens of the Month and celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Conservancy’s work to protect and improve Chestnut Ridge Park for generations to come.

Chestnut Ridge Park was one of the first parks established by Erie County in 1926 and is the largest park—consisting of 1,213 acres of park land.

The Chestnut Ridge Park Conservancy was founded in 2010 to support the restoration and preservation of the natural, recreational and historic resources of the Park. Members of the Conservancy volunteer their time to raise money for park events and projects such as Santa Land, fishing clinics and Winterfest.

Legislator Mills said, “It was my honor to name the members of the Chestnut Ridge Conservancy as Citizens of the Month. These individuals go out of their way to improve the park in impressive ways—adding a wildflower garden, tennis courts, memorial benches, fishing piers and most importantly, an inclusive playground which will be coming in August 2021—just to name a few. I commend your dedication and thank you for making Chestnut Ridge a place many generations of Erie County residents will enjoy.”

Legislator Mills named the Chestnut Ridge Conservancy as Erie County Legislature Citizens of the Month for the month of December, but was previously unable to present a proclamation due to COVID-19 restrictions.
