Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro is encouraging individuals to take part in RecruitNY on April 24-25. RecruitNY was established in 2011 to showcase the opportunities and rewards that come with being a volunteer firefighter and to raise awareness about the need to recruit more volunteers. More than 20,000 new volunteer firefighters have answered the call through initiatives such as RecruitNY. To mark the importance of the event, Legislator Todaro has introduced a resolution to the Erie County Legislature.

This year, many firehouses across New York State are organizing a virtual open house and other digital outreaches in an effort to attract new volunteers in a safe way during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Legislator Todaro said, “First responders are an integral part of our society; they dedicate their lives to keeping us safe from harm’s way.  Events like RecruitNY are so important to make sure individuals have the knowledge they need to know if becoming a volunteer firefighter is the right choice for them. Thank you to everyone who is working hard to make sure this year’s event goes on without a hitch.”
