Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro recently honored the Lancaster Public Library for the celebration of its 200th anniversary.

The Library was founded on December 11, 1821 when 40 individuals from the Cayuga Creek Settlement met in the Johnson School House to organize the “Cayuga Creek Veterans’ Library Society” they then moved to several different locations and expanded its collection before becoming a Town of Lancaster asset in 1915.

In March 1976, a grand opening was held for the current library which is located at 5466 Broadway Street in the Village of Lancaster.

Besides books, music, eBooks, magazines, newspapers and much more, the Lancaster Public Library also offers community programing such as story time for children and crafts for senior citizens.

Legislator Todaro said, “Libraries are so important to our education as well as our children’s. I am happy to know that local residents have access to the Lancaster Public Library for whatever their needs may be! Thank you to all volunteers and employees who dedicate so much of their time to make sure the Library runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis.”
