Longtime business owner and Amherst resident takes oath of office to represent the Town of Amherst and the 5th Legislative District in the Erie County Legislature
Erie County, NY – After a resounding victory in November, Attorney Jeanne M. Vinal (D-Amherst) was officially seated as an Erie County Legislator during the first Legislative session of 2020. Legislator Vinal will serve in the 5th Legislative District, replacing former Legislator Thomas Loughran, as the representative for the Town of Amherst.
Legislator Vinal is a practicing attorney of over 20 years and a long-time Amherst resident who grew up in the city of Buffalo. During her ceremonial swearing-in, the Honorable Dennis Ward administered the oath and provided remarks. Legislator Vinal was joined by many friends along with her four children and husband, Greg.
“I look forward to beginning my time on the Legislator and working hard for the people of the 5th Legislative District in this new capacity. I’m grateful for all of the support I received in this process, and I am ready to add my voice to the Majority Caucus. I believe Erie County is moving in a positive direction and I hope to continue that trend,” said Legislator Vinal.
Vinal has been assigned as the vice-chair of the Minority & Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Committee and the Energy & Environment Committee. Vinal will also sit on the Community Enrichment Committee as a member. “I am very interested in addressing issues like expanding public transportation and energy sustainability initiatives while also advancing adult-education programs at SUNY Erie,” noted Vinal.
