Comptroller’s Office Distributes 2nd Quarter Sales Tax

Amount of sales tax revenue distributed to municipalities and school districts drops compared to 2012 

(Buffalo) – The amount of sales tax revenue being distributed to cities, towns, villages, and school districts is down for the Second Quarter of 2013 compared to the same time period last year, according to information released by the Office of Erie County Comptroller.  

A total of $139,142,948 was collected by the Erie County Comptroller’s Office for the time period of April 2013 to June 2013, the Second Quarter of the year. 

The amount of sales tax revenue collected was down approximately $621,741.79 compared to the Second Quarter of 2012, when $139,764,689.81 was reported for April 2012 to June 2012:

Out of the total 8.75% sales tax collected in Erie County, 4% is dedicated to New York State, 1.75% is dedicated to Erie County, and the remaining 3% is dedicated to Erie County, cities, towns, villages, and school districts. 

The Office of Erie County Comptroller is responsible for distributing the portion of sales tax revenue dedicated to school districts, cities, and then cities/towns/villages. 

Out of the total Second Quarter sales tax revenue collected for 2013, Erie County’s share is approximately $97,423,261.41.  The remaining $41,719,686.61 was distributed to cities, towns, and villages. 

Those various entities should receive their respective Second Quarter sales tax revenue checks this week.  Per New York State law, Second Quarter sales tax revenue for the City of Buffalo and Buffalo Public School District is distributed directly to the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority.
