Buffalo, NY- Erie County Legislature Chairwoman April N.M. Baskin recognized the work of an outstanding local woman of color this past weekend at a safe, outdoor event held in Delaware Park.  Kelly Galloway and her organization, Project Mona’s House, received $20,000 in County funding that Baskin secured in the 2019 & 2020 Erie County budget.

Project Mona’s House serves female victims of human trafficking in the Buffalo area by giving them safe housing and access to resources they need to fully restore themselves and go on to live successful lives. More information can be found at projectmonashouse.org.

Baskin was also selected as an At-Large Delegate to the virtual Democratic National Convention held in Milwaukee from August 17th through August 20th.  During this historic event, she will cast her vote for Democratic nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden, and his chosen running mate, Senator Kamala Harris of California, to become the 46th President and Vice President of the United States of America. Senator Harris is the first woman of color to be the vice presidential nominee on a major party Presidential ticket.

“I am thrilled and ecstatic to have been given this opportunity to support Vice President Biden and Senator Harris in an official capacity at the DNC this year. While I regret we can’t all be together on the voting floor, safely casting my vote from home is no less historic for me. As a woman of color myself who is raising a daughter, I can’t overstate how much it means to see our Democratic party reflect those I was elected to serve. Black women across America are standing proud in support of this Democratic slate, and I know this team will be the right fit to serve our country for the next four years,” stated Legislator Baskin.

Baskin is also presenting a proclamation to the co-founders of the MMB Realty Group, a new women of color owned business that recently opened at 651 Delaware in Allentown. Jamia Mootry, Tamika Collins-Murphy, and Rosalind Burgin are realtors with over 20 years of combined experience who are eager to serve all of Erie County for their real estate needs.
