County Executive Participates in Nov. 25th Recognition Day for Public Health Professionals
ERIE COUNTY, NY— On Monday, November 25, Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz will join Research!America and leading U.S. health organizations to recognize public health professionals who work around the clock to protect the health of all Americans. These unsung heroes who protect the nation's health throughout the year include our health inspectors, environmental health scientists, public health sanitarians, nurses and educators and emergency preparedness coordinators, among others.
“Public Health Thank You Day provides an excellent opportunity to pause and realize how fortunate we are to have public health professionals working on our behalf, every day of the year,” said Poloncarz. “With the Thanksgiving holiday coming up soon, this is a very appropriate time to be thankful for all that they do, quietly and without fanfare, to ensure our well-being and safeguard our health.”
Public Health Thank You Day 2013 honors all those health heroes who keep our drinking water safe and air clean, administer vaccines, track and investigate infections, educate residents with chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes, provide cancer screening services, administer pest control programs and protect us against imminent threats to our health such as influenza, foodborne illnesses and natural disasters.
“I am immensely proud of the work that our team of dedicated professionals at the Erie County Department of Health provides every day,” added Dr. Gale Burstein, Erie County Commissioner of Health. “Although most of our work is done behind the scenes, it is nevertheless essential to protect the wellbeing of our fellow Erie County residents.”
