ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Departments of Health and Emergency Services, in conjunction with partners in local animal rescue, pet fostering networks, animal shelters, and Western New York’s pet loving community are joining forces to help dogs and cats get adopted into loving homes with the WNY Furtastic Pet Adopt-A-Thon on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. The collaborative event, which seeks to adopt out a substantial number of animals in one day, will also feature behavioral experts, groomers, trainers, K-9 Unit demonstrations, food trucks, and family fun.

The Adopt-a-Thon, to be held at the Erie County Fire Training Academy at 3359 Broadway in Buffalo, brings together twenty pet rescue and foster networks under one roof to spotlight the adoptable animals currently in their care and eligible for adoption. Every pet adopted will receive a free microchip and registration courtesy of the Erie County Department of Health, along with goodie bags and food from TLC Pet Food. In addition, each adopted animal will receive a Pet First Aid tube and all attendees are eligible to enter a raffle to win a Pet Emergency Kit.

“This event is a great opportunity for potential adopters to find a new best friend on Valentine’s Day, and we are making it easy to meet that special pet at this one-stop shopping experience,” said Erie County Health Commissioner Dr. Gale Burstein. “This year, millions of pets will wind up in shelters across North America, and many of them will be euthanized due to overpopulation. With the Adopt-a-Thon we are helping to break that cycle, save lives and provide loving homes for these animals.”
