COMPTROLLER MYCHAJLIW HONORS BLASDELL KINDERGARTNER FOR LEADERSHIP EFFORTS

Gabby Yesis recognized by Comptroller Mychajliw
for raising money for local police department

Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr. honored Gabby Yesis, a five-year-old Blasdell girl, for her efforts to raise nearly $100 through her lemonade stand for the Blasdell Police Department. During a presentation held at his office, Comptroller Mychajliw thanked Gabby for leading by example and supporting local law enforcement. Gabby is the daughter of Eileen and Michael Yesis, both of whom work in public service.

“Gabby and her family care a great deal about our police officers and the Blasdell community. As a proud Hamburg homeowner, I am honored to have them as my community neighbor. At her young age, Gabby has shown respect for law enforcement and compassion for people she didn’t know before starting her project. She demonstrated to us how to turn a stranger into a friend through a small act of kindness,” said Comptroller Mychajliw. “Our community’s future is in good hands with leaders like Gabby. Her giving spirit is inspiring.”

Gabby received a certificate of recognition for her efforts. Not only did she raise money to buy lunch for the Blasdell Police Department, she has helped to spread the important message of partnering with law enforcement to build a stronger community.

Gabby had her Policeman Elmo with her during the certificate presentation. In 2018, she gave the toy to a police officer so he wouldn’t be alone. According to the Blasdell Police Department, Elmo completed training and received a uniform before returning to the Yesis family to keep them safe.
