COMPTROLLER MYCHAJLIW RELEASES “SAVE OUR SKYWAY” ROBO-CALL

Comptroller encourages taxpayers to attend tonight’s Hamburg Town Board meeting where a resolution could pass that opposes tearing down Skyway

(Buffalo) – Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw continues leading the fight to “Save Our Skyway” by sending a “call to action” robo-call to Southtowns taxpayers, encouraging them to contact elected officials in Hamburg to pass a resolution in opposition to tearing down the Skyway.  Comptroller Mychajliw began the mission to stop the destruction of the Skyway in a letter to Congressman Brian Higgins on April 8^th, 2021.  Two months later, the Town of Hamburg can be the first Board in all of Erie County to pass a formal resolution opposing the tear down of the Skyway

 “Hey there, it’s Stefan Mychajliw. Your ‘Taxpayer Watchdog.’ Leading the fight to save our Skyway. Two months ago I started the important battle to Save Our Skyway. The fight continues tonight. Hamburg Town Hall. 7:00 PM. The Town Board can pass a resolution opposing tearing down the Skyway.  Hamburg Town Board member Beth Farrell proposed a resolution that opposes removal or restrictions of the Skyway to vehicle use.  It can be passed at Monday night’s Hamburg Town Board meeting at 7:00 PM.

 Resolution – Skyway - 6/7/21

 Whereas, the Town of Hamburg, including its Villages of Hamburg and Blasdell, is a thriving and vital community engaged in initiatives targeting revitalization, including economic and waterfront, and

 Whereas, given the Town of Hamburg’s location south of the City of Buffalo, the Route 5 and Skyway corridor provides an efficient transportation route and connectivity to the City of Buffalo and points beyond essential to ongoing revitalization efforts, and

 Whereas, removal of the Skyway Bridge or restricting vehicle traffic from the bridge would result in significant hardships for the residents and businesses of Hamburg and the Southtowns,

 Now Therefore Be It Resolved that the Hamburg Town Board affirms the Skyway Bridge as essential to the community for commerce, revitalization, access to employment, public safety, and efficient travel to points north, and opposes its removal or restrictions to vehicle use, and

 Be It Further Resolved that the Hamburg Town Board will hold a Public Forum at its July meeting (date TBD) at 7 pm to afford the public additional opportunity to express their position on this issue.
