According to data released by New York State, revenue for the first sales tax check for the month of March to the County of Erie is down 23.1% compared to the same time last year
The first receipt of sales tax revenue for Erie County for the month of March 2020 is $37,578,774, compared to $48,891,180.44 for the first receipt of March 2019. That's down 23.1% compared to last year.
This is only the first sales tax receipt, or “check,” for March 2020.
New York State will send a second check one week from now that will present a clearer picture for the full month of March. We do not have final numbers for the entire month of March based on this first check. This is standard operating procedure.
The second receipt, or “check,” is usually when New York State reconciles the entire month and gives a clearer picture of actual revenues. That is expected around May 11.
The Office of Erie County Comptroller will continue to monitor this revenue source closely and report data immediately to the Erie County Legislature and public.
