Local clergy, volunteer firefighters, first responders, and elected officials gather to see fire department upgrades and the blessing of new equipment

Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr. was honored to join Chaffee-Sardinia Volunteer Fire Company, elected officials and residents for the new “Tanker Truck 5” dedication and ecumenical prayer service that took place at the Sardinia Historical Society on October 10, 2018. Joining Chaffee-Sardinia Fire Chief Ronald Kenyon, Department President Krissy Kittleson, Town Supervisor Beverly Gambino, Assemblyman Dave DiPietro and Al Heary, the department’s longest serving member with 52 years, along with others, Comptroller Mychajliw wished the department continued safety.

“This dedication is a historic moment for the Chaffee-Sardinia Volunteer Fire Company.   It was a privilege to be here among our local heroes who answer the calls for help, day and night.  No matter the time or conditions, brave men and women regularly answer the call. I support all of our volunteers.  We need to be sure first responders have the necessary tools to get their critically important jobs done. As a community partner, the county needs to ensure there are safe roadways and bridges to allow emergency personnel to respond quickly to each call as any delay could be difference of life and death,” said Comptroller Mychajliw.

Leading the prayer service were Rev. Raquel Alston from Chaffee Community Baptist Church and Pastor Dave Kubiak from Sardinia United Methodist Church. The new truck marks a milestone in the company’s history and the community is benefitting from this upgrade.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Chaffee-Sardinia Volunteer Fire Company. The company was established in 1948 to provide fire protection to the Town of Sardinia.  In 1955, the first aid squad was established and then purchased an ambulance. Today, the Chaffee Sardinia VFC provides fire protection, search and rescue, and advanced emergency medical services to the residents of Sardinia and the surrounding municipalities when called upon for mutual aid.
