Encourages shoppers to stop in before sale ends on Friday Dec. 21st
Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw, Jr. shopped at the McKinley High School's Horticulture Department's annual Holiday Plant Sale on Dec. 14 to support the students’ efforts. The sale continues through Friday, Dec. 21st. Shoppers can choose from poinsettias, custom designed wreaths, miniature trees and more.
“I am a proud graduate of Buffalo Public Schools. I attended Bilingual Academy #33 before graduating from the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. I’m happy to strongly support our schools. That’s why I shopped for Christmas plants and wreaths at McKinley High School's Horticulture Department's annual Holiday Plant Sale recently,” said Comptroller Mychajliw.
“The students truly do an amazing job. The quality is phenomenal and you can’t beat the prices. Our Christmas wreath went right on our front door.”
The sale is taking place at McKinley High School, 1500 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo, NY 14207. For sale hours, prices, etc., please contact the school at 816-4480.
The school’s horticulture program is very impressive and teaches students about the growing, distribution, and maintenance of plants, soil and flowers, and their arrangement, both indoors and out. Each year, 24-48 students are accepted into this four-year course and students gain experience in three major fields of study: floriculture, landscaping and green house operations. Students who graduate from the horticulture program are prepared in careers as florists, gardeners, growers, landscape planners, nursery operators, estate grounds managers, golf course grounds keeper, general landscape management and materials for retail sales as well as actual retail selling. During their junior and senior years, horticulture students are expected to participate in an internship or work release program. Graduates are also prepared to enroll in post-secondary schools for further study in the area of agriculture.
