COMPTROLLER MYCHAJLIW TOURS ORCHARD PARK HIGH TECH MANUFACTURING FIRM

The company formerly known as Polymer Conversions played a significant role in producing parts for COVID vaccines and test kits

(ORCHARD PARK) – Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr. continues his business tours across Erie County with a visit to the high-tech manufacturing firm formerly known as Polymer Conversions, now known as MedBio LLC, in Orchard Park, New York. MedBio President Benjamin Harp took Comptroller Mychajliw on a tour of their growing facility.

The company is embarking on a bold, $12 million expansion plan that will add 34,000 square feet to their footprint and add an estimated 45 jobs. It represents the second expansion project at Medbio in ten years.

The Erie County Industrial Development Agency (ECIDA) and the New York State Power Authority (NYPA) both provided incentives to help make the expansion project happen.  Shovels could go in the ground in a matter of weeks.

MedBio and their workplace play a significant role in the fight against COVID-19. They manufacture a vital component for COVID-19 test kits around the world.  The Orchard Park company also produces a filter to ensure COVID-19 vaccines are safe for injection.

“Erie County is fortunate to have such a strong and growing company like MedBio within our borders. They are also an example of how important it is for government and bureaucracies to create a culture where businesses can survive and thrive. Medbio needs a massive amount of electricity to operate their sophisticated equipment. NYPA delivered ten-years of low-cost hydropower. The ECIDA provided incentives that allow Medbio to make their investment worthwhile,” said Comptroller Mychajliw.

MedBio combines the use of high-tech sensors, science-based molding and robotics to make plastic components for many medical fields.  Their custom-made specialty products are precisely molded and used in orthopedics, cardiovascular components, ophthalmology, neurological surgery, general surgery, wound care, oncology, biotech, and dentistry.
