Family owned and operated since 1946, Vara’s Dry Cleaning operates three Erie County locations, including the Town of Hamburg
(Hamburg) – Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr. continues conducting business tours across Erie County, visiting Vara’s Dry Cleaning, a family-based business with three locations across the region: Hamburg, Orchard Park, and West Seneca.
Current owner Robert Waterfield is the nephew of the original owners that started the dry-cleaning business in 1946, right after WWII. Mr. Waterfield, who bought the business from family in 1974, took Comptroller Mychajliw on a tour of their Hamburg based location at 4245 Clark Street.
The family values veterans and gives veterans and active-duty military members a 10% discount. Mr. Arthur Vara, a member of the “Greatest Generation” that fought in World War II from 1943-1946, founded the business with his father after coming home following the war. Sergeant Brett E. Nelson followed in his family’s footsteps by serving our great nation as an infantryman in the United States Army.
“I greatly appreciate the warm hospitality shown to me by the Waterfield family. We owe their many family members a debt of gratitude for bravely fighting for freedom here at home and around the world. They care deeply for their customers and those that served,” said Comptroller Mychajliw.
In addition to serving customers in the Southtowns, Vara’s Dry Cleaning also provided services for the Buffalo Bills for three decades. They are members of the Dry Cleaning & Laundry Institute International (DLI). In addition to dry cleaning, Vara’s Dry Cleaning offers wash and fold laundry, drive thru drop off and pick up.
