Direct Deposit Better Ensures Timely Worker Payment In Challenging Times
With concern growing over coronavirus and more closures or cancellations being regularly reported, Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr. is strongly encouraging all county employees that are issued paper paychecks to enroll in direct deposit payment as soon as possible.
Currently the Office of Erie County Comptroller processes approximately 4,000 payments via direct deposit in the amount of about $7 million bi-weekly. Our office prints approximately 330 paper checks for those county employees that have not signed up for electronic direct deposit, totaling about $291,100.00
“Long before the coronavirus hit, we encouraged as many employees as possible to stop being issued paper checks in favor of direct deposit. It saves us money and is better for the environment. Less paper produced and printed is better for taxpayers and the world we live in. Now that the coronavirus is here, we want to make sure as many employees as possible are enrolled in direct deposit. Regardless of the external factors surrounding the community, a direct deposit payment is the most efficient way to get paid,” said Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr.
Comptroller Mychajliw is being pro-active in ensuring employees are paid in a timely manner, especially in light of whether or not government functions will be negatively impacted by the coronavirus. Regardless of whether or not the Rath Building and county government is closed because of weather related issues or the coronavirus, employees should take advantage of the efficient and timely way to be paid via direct deposit.
“I have a family. As a husband and father, I wholeheartedly understand the importance of getting paid on time so I can pay my own bills. Our county employees work incredibly hard. I want to make sure they are paid on time so they can take care of their own families. That is why I’m strongly encouraging county employees to sign up for direct deposit as soon as possible,” added Comptroller Mychajliw.
To sign up for direct deposit, contact Erie County Department of Personnel at 858-8484. Or go to “request forms” on the employee self-help website.
