Dear Cyndi:
Strong grassroots efforts to Save Our Skyway must continue even though United States Congressman Brian Higgins and New York State Senator Tim Kennedy have publicly stated their ill-advised plan to tear it down is “on pause.” Our community must remain vigilant until the scheme to remove or reconstruct the Skyway is permanently ended, not just paused.
Our efforts to Save Our Skyway continue. I’m attending every single Town Board and government council meeting across Erie County to encourage municipalities to pass formal resolutions in opposition to removing the Skyway. To date the towns of Hamburg and Sardinia have approved such measures. The Town of Marilla is expected to pass a similar measure at their next board meeting. Strength in numbers. The more cities, towns and villages that officially pass resolutions like this, the better.
This leads to the purpose of my correspondence to the Southtowns Regional Chamber of Commerce. I propose a regional meeting of taxpayers, community stakeholders and local leaders of all levels of government. It should be open to the public and take place in Hamburg, the largest community most negatively affected by the removal of the Skyway.
Let us continue our spirit of bipartisanship, regardless of political party, on our shared mission of Saving the Skyway. Time is of the essence. There’s no time like the present. This meeting of community stakeholders should take place within 30-days to continue the positive momentum we have built on this important issue. I would encourage the Southtowns Regional Chamber of Commerce to take the lead on a public meeting and host this bipartisan event. Please contact me at your earliest convenience to begin the planning process of this roundtable to Save our Skyway.
Sincerely,
Hon. Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr.
