Defenders of democracy would be angered if President Trump issued an Executive Order declaring the Constitution null and void, struck down laws, then did whatever he wanted with no checks and balances of uncontrollable power.
It is exactly what Mark Poloncarz just did. I doubt it is even legal.
A deficit is real. It exists. It is here. Mark Poloncarz is sticking his head in the sand. The County Executive is behaving exactly the way politicians did right before the “Red-Green” budget crisis melted down county government.
While Senator Charles Schumer was criticizing inaction in Washington, his exact words could be directed to Mark Poloncarz:
"Let's wait and do nothing, well, they remind me of the old Herbert Hoovers. We had the Great Depression - Hoover said let's just wait it out. It got worse and worse," Schumer said.
