Statement from Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw:
“Mark Poloncarz rolled his eyes. Smugly responded ‘bull’ when asked about spending hundreds of thousands of federal COVID funds on food. As credible as “I skated alone without my mates.” The Erie County Executive got caught lying and denying once again.
The Office of Erie County Comptroller already publicly released a report on food purchases. We have also released receipts proving purchases including but not limited to: Ham. Pork chops. Ice cream treats. Pots. Pans. Cutlery. Griddles. Chicken filets.
The federal government already tried once recouping $48 million in FEMA funding provided Erie County to respond to the October Surprise Storm. Long before I took office. I do not want that to happen to the future Erie County Comptroller. This is why we are closely monitoring COVID spending. We do not want the federal government, months or years from now, to review highly questionable spending of COVID funds by Erie County and demand the money back. It happened before. I do not want it to happen again.”
