(Buffalo) - Erie County Comptroller released the following statement considering NYS Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement that CDC mask guidelines will be followed in New York State:

“The Erie County Health Department must issue a permit as soon as possible to open the Erie County Fair this summer.  Dr. Gale Burstein has zero excuses to block a permit or not issue one. Hamburg taxpayers and families across our region must be able to enjoy The Fair.  Community support to open the Erie County Fair this year is strong. Hundreds of taxpayers signed our petition demanding The Fair take place this year. Those signatures and the strong showing of support have already been sent to both Health Commissioners of New York State and Erie County.

If a permit is not granted to hold The Fair in Hamburg, it confirms this: closures are about power and control, not your health. There must be an announcement. Now. That the Erie County Fair is taking place and a local permit has been issued by the Erie County Department of Health.  Time is of the essence.  Critical work to open The Fair needs to happen right now. We cannot wait any longer.

There are no excuses now to prevent families from enjoying a fun, safe and healthy Erie County Fair.”
