Dear Honorable Members,

The Office of the New York State Comptroller notified our office today, May 11, 2020, that the second sales tax check for the revenue month of March 2020 has been received. This is the last payment for March revenue, less a small adjustment that will be received later.  For the month of March County Share sales tax revenue is down 19.5% or $6,998,856.

Please be advised that the County Share sales tax revenue totaled $28,925,700 for March 2020, compared to $35,924,557 for March 2019.

For the first three months of the year County Share sales tax revenue was $ 107,727,048 versus $108,692,157 for the first three months of 2019.  County Share sales tax through March of this year is down 0.89% or $965,109.  We expect this revenue source to decline further in at least the months of April and May and potentially further, depending on the continuation of the closure of the economy.

I wanted you to be aware of these figures as the county navigates these unprecedented times. The Office of Erie County Comptroller will continue to monitor this revenue source closely and report data immediately to your honorable body.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Comptroller’s Office.

Sincerely,

Gregory G. Gach

Deputy Comptroller

Erie County Comptroller’s Office
