$2.08 Million Road Reconstruction & Sewer Project Provides Major Upgrade

ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Department of Public Works Highways’ Division has announced the substantial completion of an over $2 million road reconstruction project on Brighton Road between Fries Road and Niagara Falls Boulevard in the Town of Tonawanda. Completed work includes a total road reconstruction along with the construction of new storm sewers and curbs, while the installation of new traffic signals is underway. Work on the project began just before Labor Day. 10,250 vehicles per day use the reconstructed stretch of road.

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz said, “The completion of the Brighton Road project caps off a season-long push by Erie County to repair roads and infrastructure in every corner of the county, and I want to thank the crews who worked hard all year long to mill, pave, patch, oil and chip, and otherwise repair our roads. My administration has invested over $60 million in improving our roads and bridges, and we will continue working to provide the infrastructure that residents expect.”

The first step of the reconstruction project involved the removal of trees, necessary to prepare for the construction of new storm sewers and curbs along the length of the project. The storm sewer portion of the project, conducted in conjunction with the road reconstruction, began in mid-September. Wheelchair ramps along with sidewalk connections were installed at the corners of most of the eleven side streets that intersect Brighton, and two new traffic signals will soon be installed at Fries Road and Parkhurst.
