Residents in recently-flooded area receive boxes as part of School Service Learning project

ERIE COUNTY, NY— Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz joined students and faculty from West Seneca’s Winchester Elementary School on Friday March 7 to distribute “Boxes of Love” to residents in West Seneca’s Lexington Green neighborhood, which was hard-hit recently by flooding. The boxes are the result of a school-wide Service Learning Project that began with the students’ desire to help homeowners affected by the floods; Winchester Elementary is located nearby and several students are from the Lexington Green neighborhood. Students collected new household items and created handmade art work for the project, which was assisted through generous community donations as well. The County Executive accompanied students from the school’s Student Lighthouse Team as they went door-to-door to distribute approximately 70 boxes to residents.
