Department of Environment & Planning, Partners Schedule Return of Popular Service

ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Department of Environment & Planning, in cooperation with the Town of Amherst, Erie Community College, and Northeast Southtowns Solid Waste Management (“NEST”) has announced that “Hazardous Household Waste Drop-off Days” will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the ECC North Campus and on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the ECC South Campus. Both events are open to all Erie County residents between the hours of 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM and allow for the safe disposal of hazardous items that can’t be thrown out in the regular garbage, helping to reduce pollution and potential contamination of groundwater.

“Providing residents with a free, safe way to dispose of hazardous household waste items is a smart way to protect people and the environment. These items can be cleaned out of garages and basements and brought to the drop off site for disposal as we all work to create a cleaner, greener Erie County,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “As we’ve seen in past years, these events are very popular and well-attended. I want to thank the staff in the Department of Environment & Planning, as well as their partners at ECC, the Town of Amherst, NEST and other event supporters, for their work in once again facilitating this vital service.”
