Free, Proper Disposal Available for Pesticides, Paints, Batteries, Other Hazardous Materials
ERIE COUNTY, NY— Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz has announced that Erie County, in conjunction with the Town of Amherst, will hold a “Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day” on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Erie Community College North Campus from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM. This event allows County residents to safely dispose of hazardous items that can’t be thrown out in the regular garbage, thereby reducing pollution and potential contamination of groundwater.
“I’m pleased that this vital service will be provided to County residents,” said Poloncarz. “This is a good way to protect our citizens and our environment.”
WHAT: Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Day
WHERE: Erie Community College North Campus, Williamsville (enter from Wehrle Drive)
WHEN: Saturday, May 12, 2012 9am – 2pm
ITEMS WHICH CAN BE BROUGHT TO THE SITE FOR DISPOSAL INCLUDE:
- Pesticides, Fertilizers, Pool and Household Chemicals/Cleaners (limit 2 gallons or 20 lbs.)
- Oil-based Paints, Spray Cans (limit 10 gallons)
- Paint Thinner, Stripper and Solvents (limit 2 gallons)
- Batteries (lead acid & rechargeable)
- Oil, Gasoline, Kerosene, Antifreeze (limit 10 gallons)
- Mercury (thermometers, thermostats, metal)
- Propane tanks & cylinders (full or empty)
ITEMS WHICH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED INCLUDE: Latex paint, tires, computers & electronics, pharmaceutical products, commercial/industrial waste
Participants may be required to verify that wastes are generated by households.
