Seeks Volunteers, Groups to Assist with National Veterans Golden Age Games
ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Department of Senior Services has issued a call for volunteers to assist with the 27th National Veterans Golden Age Games, hosted by the VA Western New York Healthcare System and happening in Buffalo from May 30 – June 4, 2013. This event, the premier senior adaptive rehabilitation program in the United States, is the only national multi-event sports and recreational seniors’ competition designed to improve the quality of life for all older veterans.
“Our veterans have contributed so much to our communities, and their sacrifices continue to make our country stronger,” said Commissioner of Senior Services Randy Hoak. “This event is a good way to celebrate our veterans, and I encourage everyone to join in that celebration by volunteering to make sure our senior veterans enjoy the Golden Age Games.”
The Olympic-style National Veterans Golden Age Games feature 14 different sports and recreational activities, each of which is accessible to veterans with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. Organizers are seeking 2,000 volunteers throughout the 6-day event. Individuals and groups are encouraged to volunteer for any of the many types of opportunities available.
