Session Seeks Community Input for Preparation of Five-Year Plan
ERIE COUNTY, NY— Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz and Town of Hamburg Supervisor Steven Walters have announced a public meeting to obtain input from residents regarding the development of a 2015-2019 Plan for Community Development within the Erie County Consortium communities, as well as the Town of Hamburg and Villages of Hamburg and Blasdell. The meeting will be conducted by representatives from the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning (“DEP”) and Town of Hamburg Department of Community Development.
“Public input is essential to planning and building better communities, and this meeting provides an excellent opportunity for residents to add their voices to the community-wide discussion about what is important to them,” said Poloncarz. “The information gathered at this meeting will be used to create a community that’s more reflective of what residents want, so I encourage people to attend, speak, and help to build a stronger Erie County.”
The public meeting provides an opportunity to increase citizen awareness and participation in the local governments’ federal Community Development program by allowing the general public, as well as agency advocates for low and moderate income individuals, the elderly, and the disabled to offer suggestions and information on the needs of these populations to County and municipal officials. Housing needs, such as affordable housing and housing for special populations (the homeless, the elderly, disabled persons, persons living with AIDS, and public housing residents), and community and economic development needs, such as transportation, jobs, community facilities and infrastructure (sewer, water and roads), will be prime topics for discussion at the meeting.
The public meeting is scheduled for: Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hamburg Town Hall, 6100 South Park Avenue, Hamburg, NY 14075 (Conference Room #1).
Information obtained from the sessions will be used to formulate the Erie County Consortium and Town of Hamburg’s 2015 – 2019 Consolidated Action Plan and Annual Action Plans for eventual submittal to the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Consortium is comprised of thirty-four municipalities, excluding the City of Buffalo and the Towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga, Tonawanda and villages therein.
