The Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District is pleased to again sponsor the annual Erie County Envirothon competition for high school students. The Envirothon program is a problem-solving natural resource competition that helps students to develop into environmentally aware and action-oriented adults.
The Erie District is pleased to announce that it will host the local 2022 Envirothon competition at the Village Green Park in Elma. This will allow students to experience the beautiful environmental resources of Erie County and gain an understanding of natural resources conservation in their local community.
Teams from Erie County high schools will register to compete against each other at the Envirothon
Competition on April 28, 2022. Students will be challenged in five Envirothon knowledge areas including
aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and the 2022 current environmental issue, “Waste to Resources.” At the
Envirothon the teams will rotate through indoor/outdoor, hands-on, practical-style test stations at which they will compete for the highest scores on each environmental topic.
County winners advance to the State Envirothon Competition at SUNY Hobart & William Smith Colleges, New York on May 25-26, 2022. The state champion will represent New York State at the NCF-Envirothon Competition at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in late summer.
East Aurora high school was Erie County’s 2021 winning high school. The team then traveled to Hobart & William Smith Colleges to represent Erie County at the state competition.
