As part of the recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, Erie County Department of Mental Health Commissioner Michael R. Ranney has been crisscrossing the region as part of a countywide tour exploring the agencies who are involved with community partnerships that provide unique programming and specialized services that help address existing mental health conditions.

“Erie County government works collaboratively with so many different agencies and entities that offer programming and services for those who need it,” said Ranney. “I have enjoyed my visits over the past few weeks because these agencies have been able to present updated information about the mental health care success stories they have achieved with clients that has allowed these individuals to lead healthier and more balance lives.”

Ranney’s busy schedule through the first three weeks of May have included stops at Crisis Services, Spectrum Health & Human Services in Buffalo, Horizon Health Services in Amherst, Mental Health Association of Erie County, Inc. in Buffalo, Endeavor Health Services HOPE Treatment and Counseling Center in Orchard Park, Jewish Family Services in Buffalo, and Best Self Behavorial Health in Buffalo. These agencies offer a vast array of services to adults and children in our community with mental health conditions as well as substance use disorders. Many are also integrated with physical health care.

“There is some tremendous work being done in our community to assist people who have mental health conditions,” said Ranney. “I appreciate the dedication and the help available to our community by these dedicated treatment providers. The unique programming, specialized services and innovative care that is offered by numerous organizations located throughout Erie County are provided year-round, so it has been my pleasure to learn more about them over the past few weeks and I continue to visit more of them throughout the rest of the month.”
