Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was joined today by members of the Erie County Senior Services department and enthusiastic seniors at Infant of Prague senior center in Cheektowaga to honor John Root as “Senior of the Month” for March 2018. A longtime volunteer at the center’s noonday STAY FIT luncheon, Mr. Root served for seven years as the president of HIAS (Happy Is an Active Senior) and also volunteered as a Club 99 fitness instructor there. At an age (87) when many volunteers lighten their workload, Mr. Root still drives to downtown Buffalo weekly to serve as a volunteer at Friends of the Night People.
